Ginerva Gambino’s program consisted of international and German artists whose artistic practices employ various techniques simultaneously, from painting to sculpture to performance to film/video.
Thematically the program explored themes such as identity and body politics, oftentimes with an emphasis on the human body and/or physical experience.
The fictional name Ginerva Gambino was first used as the name for an allegedly foreign curator. In 2013 it served as the name for an exhibition space in Cologne, which subsequently became a commercial gallery in 2015.
Ginerva Gambino functioned as a hypernym for the gallery's concept, which was based around the idea of collaboration. Hence many of the artists who showed with the gallery are part of collectives themselves, or large parts of their work evolves from a collaborative process.
